Sun Dipped Glasses

Jeanne and Brian Howell at the University of Utah circa 1980

I think I need sun dipped glasses to keep my feet fixed to this earth
For my soul is accompanied only by the stars
Rocked to sleep nightly with their vibrate songs

The lullaby grove

Dancing along the tails of comets
They give you their sonnets
Songs of old and songs of new
I reach for the rings of planetary alignment
For they seem to be on consignment
Sales to the highest bidder
Along my star crossed trail as the comets disappear from sight

Earth bound I may never be
To look from above in this void of a sea
Oxygen sparse in abundance
It’s nice that the sky is my dependence

Should I search for the chroma the glasses provide
Should I continue to search for a comets tail so I can hitch my next ride
Should I stay here in this green and brown eyed view

My every though intermingled with you
My feet have left the ground
Only a single stop. Then it’s skyward bound
The sun dipped glasses give me clarity

Stop, sit, enjoy the passing breeze
Let the moment simmer
Enjoy your time while the sunset passes and the lights dimmer

Darkness in the void of absolute space

Time is eternal
The one moment that cannot pass
Time stretches and bends to our whim
And we can finally swim in the celestial waters that only space can provide
Stardust waters in the sepia sand
The arm protrudes through this new view and then theirs a link

Hand in hand

We feel the void in each separated dermal layer
The singular question present in my mind as to what possibly made her

Perfect in the morning

Perfect in the night

Perfect in the sunshine

Even in the moonlight

I think I need your sun dipped glasses to keep my feet fixed to this earth
For being with you in purgatory has departed soul from body, matter from mind
I’m in this seeing only from my blinded eyes within a cloudless sky
And there’s you atop K2s peak
A mountain so hard to climb, it’s almost out of reach
I’ll climb the mountain
Determined to summit I will never fail
For these few moments in the sun with you have been a fantastic quest for a new holy grail

Love you Mom
